Gregory Meeks on the Future of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway

Below is the March 5, 2021 press release

Today, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks issued the following statement regarding the rejected proposal to reduce the capacity of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway:

“I’m very pleased to announce that through collective efforts with Governor Cuomo’s office and local officials, St. John’s Episcopal Hospital will not be downsizing as the New York Health Department and ToneyKorf Partners, LLC recommended.

“Instead, the New York Health Department has committed to continue funding the hospital this year for a total of at least $60 million. The rejected proposal would have been detrimental to the hospital and while it is not moving forward, the fight is not over. I will be working with local officials and St. John’s Hospital to find a long-term solution to address the health care demands that are growing in Far Rockaway. We need a sustainable plan that will better serve the community and address the racial and geographical disparities in our health care system,” said Congressman Gregory W. Meeks.
